Who We Are:

Vida Verde is a group of concerned Mexican and U.S. citizens who believe it is our fundamental right to eat safe food and protect natural seeds from extinction. We believe that this right–now more than ever–is critically threatened. Our food supply is in danger, and we are called to action to educate and inform on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Based in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, our members are committed to the growing worldwide movement to maintain biodiversity. We are activists, farmers, holistic health workers, organic growers and retailers, artists, journalits, writers and filmmakers who promote answers to the global food crisis question: “What can I do?”

We join the efforts of farmer collectives, indigenous groups and organizations that demand accountability and responsible action from transnational corporations and organizations who risk our personal health, the biodiversity of the planet and the future food security of all peoples.

The Issues:

Food security, biodiversity, market diversity, fair trade, farmer co-ops, farmers markets, organic food, GMOs’s, transnational agribusiness, grass-roots organizing, criollo corn identity, migration, immigration, solidarity, and family & community health.

The Solutions:

Education, local food co-ops and food distribution, community farmers’ markets, consumer cash register power, support for organic farms, fair-trade practices and the creation of local jobs and sustainability of a local economy.

Hi, I just tried to send an article from YES!Magazine entitled “Reclaiming Corn and Culture.” By Wendy Call. It’s really excellent. Also, I wonder of that magazine should be one of the Links. See what you think.
